George W. Johnson, 1864 (Surrogate’s Court)

In the matter of the application for Administration on the Estate of George W. Johnson, late of the town of Stephentown:
Julia E. Johnson deposed that she was the widow of the late George W. Johnson, and lived in Stephentown. He died a natural death in Stephentown on the 11th day of March 1864, without leaving a last Will and Testament;

District Attorney Colby stated some of the facts developed on the part of the prosecution – that there was a woman in the case who had lived both with the deceased and the prisoner – that there were spots of blood on the ground between Jenks’ house and his barn, giving rise to the theory that he had been deliberately killed at the former place
